At the age of 25, Amber Werchon has made her mark in the Queensland real estate industry. Earlier this year, Amber opened her own independent real estate agency, ‘Amber Werchon Property’, becoming one of Australia’s youngest female principals. Amber broke into the real estate industry at a young age, purchasing her first investment property at 16. This fuelled her passion for real estate and cemented her interest in the industry. She credits this decision as a “defining and pivotal moment—a driving force behind later choices”.
Her dedication to her work has seen her go from strength to strength. Starting out in the industry eight years ago as a receptionist, Amber has been driven by her total-commitment to building her own business, she has reached career goals, received numerous business and real estate awards and achieved her long-term goal of opening her own agency.
Amber describes her company as a “proactive, dynamic and fresh real estate company. We pride ourselves on delivering excellence in all aspects of the real estate business”, she says. She has a team of 25 dedicated, hard working and like-minded staff who share the vision of wanting to be the best and deliver excellence.
The current economic market is volatile and challenging for business owners, Amber says starting a business in 2008 has been a test. She is constantly asked ‘why now’? “I have a lot of confidence in what we do and how we do it and the future health of the property market in our area. I always embrace challenges” she says.
Always thinking ahead, Amber has purchased several commercial properties in strategic locations, with a vision to franchise and open additional real estate agencies in the future.
For other women wanting to build their own business, Amber says “be confident in your own ability—you ‘can’ do it. Set goals and implement strategies to meet your goals. If you don’t always meet them, work out when you will. Truly, it is about what makes you happy and knowing what you want, then working out what you are prepared to do to get there.”
Amber's tip for 2008:
“Don’t let negative media reports about the economy and the outlook for business destroy your enthusiasm— a great business can survive in any market. Look for innovative ways to offer a ‘point of difference’ so your business continues to succeed where others may not”.
